Handpainted cards from Honeysuckle Harebell
Updated: 1 day ago
It all started with a little Hare who was waiting for something…
It was during lockdown in the Covid pandemic that I found myself waiting and wondering what on earth to do. Then I suddenly painted a little Hare on a card. He came out of nowhere but I liked him and I wondered if anyone else would too. He turned out to be very popular so I branched out and the waiting Hare met another Hare, had a family and they all sat staring out into an unknown future!
Proving popular
When normal life resumed , I decided to carry on painting these stylised Hares as I had been overwhelmed by the response to them and also I loved painting them.
The designs
The designs are all my own and have developed over time. The cards have become more colourful and the Hares have changed quite a lot - the later Hares have even grown heart shaped tails! The cards still follow the family of Hares and the pictures now depict the passing of the seasons, relationships and love. Each one has a little story attached to them.
There are limited editions of each design. However, each one is slightly different due to the nature of it being hand painted. I use Schminke watercolours and pen, which give a vibrant look to them and is long lasting. I use Kraft card as its’ sustainable and gives it a naive, rustic feel.
Not just any cards...hand painted cards
What I love the most is the thought that someone may treasure one of my cards as a keepsake, tuck it away in a box under the bed and show their grandchildren one day !
Perhaps the reason people seem to love these cards is because they like the simplicity, that someone has taken the time to paint it - just for them. A card to be kept, not thrown away. These cards go against the tide of mass production, they can’t be created with AI. Each one is unique in its own way and are as individual as the recipients.
