'Spike was one of two abandoned hoglets who suddenly appeared out of the old coal bunker in the garden one day. His sister Sally unfortunately dissapeared but I like to hope survived somewhere in the garden but Spike, as I called him, was promptly kept hold of and fed then taken to a Hedgehog rescue centre. I felt I simply must paint his portrait."
